Online Betting Now Accouting For 35% of Gambling Industry
May 31, 2018

The UK Gambling Commission have today published their six-month industry update providing a statistical insight into the gambling industry sector.
The key finding from the report shows that the remote sector – online betting, bingo and casino – has risen by 1% to an all-time market share high of 35%. Slots remain the most popular game in the online casinos sector while football and horse racing dominate the bookmakers online.
The report also states there are now 279 fewer betting shops than March 2017 while there have been 152 new casinos within the past year.
Individual gaming machines and B2 machines are also down from this time in 2017, while profits from the machines, in general, have increased, though the new government legislation will have an impact on that statistic in Q1 2019.
Overall, the gross industry’s yield has increased 0.7% year on year and there has been a 0.2% increase of operators licensed by the Commission.
